Testing merge logic with CSVs
Use Dedupely’s CSV upload to test merge logic before syncing. It lets you compare records, refine match settings, and validate results, without risking changes.
Many CRM teams want to clean incoming records before committing to sync, not because they distrust the CRM, but because they want to understand how deduplication logic will behave on real data. Especially when leads come from imports or integrations, the risk of introducing duplicate records rises before a single automation runs.
One team working with Pipedrive had a 1,000-row list and wanted to test for duplicates before syncing it. They weren’t ready to trigger real merges or connect their CRM yet. Uploading the external list and a CRM export into Dedupely worked: This lets them identify overlaps safely, test fuzzy matching, and validate field behavior, all without modifying live records.
That approach isn’t just safer. It’s faster. Teams can check logic outcomes early, adjust match rules, and confirm results before CRM automation or routing kicks in.
How to test and clean data before syncing to your CRM
1. Export your current CRM records
Pull a list of leads or organizations from your CRM to use as a reference set.
This ensures you're testing against actual records, not assumptions, and helps surface real duplicates based on existing data.
2. Connect Dedupely using the CSV option and upload your lists
Instead of connecting a CRM, choose the CSV data source and upload the CRM export and the external list.
This allows you to run deduplication logic without syncing live records, ideal for testing, validation, or one-time cleanup.
3. Run deduplication using match options on selected fields
Use match options like Similar words, with settings such as “First 2 words” to detect duplicates between uploaded files.
These options help surface matches even when names are inconsistently entered or formatted, especially when comparing external data against CRM exports.
4. Review match results and refine your match settings
Use Dedupely’s match review tools to adjust how records are compared; for example, by ignoring suffixes, tolerating minor typos, or loosening match strictness.
This lets you refine detection logic before importing or syncing, improving accuracy without changing or reformatting your actual data.
CRM teams don’t always want to automate; they want to validate first. When they can test their own data against real match rules, they gain clarity on how the system behaves before syncing, assigning, or merging. That early visibility builds trust in the logic and removes hesitation later. Pre-import cleanup isn’t a substitute for CRM cleanup. It makes cleanup easier to run, scale safer, and commit faster.
